Parameterized Model Checking of Token-Passing Systems

چکیده
We revisit the parameterized model checking problem for token-passing systems and specifications in indexed CTL∗\X. Emerson and Namjoshi (1995, 2003) have shown that parameterized model checking of indexed CTL∗\X in uni-directional token rings can be reduced to checking rings up to some cutoff size. Clarke et al. (2004) have shown a similar result for general topologies and indexed LTL\X, provided processes cannot choose the directions for sending or receiving the token. We unify and substantially extend these results by systematically exploring fragments of indexed CTL∗\X with respect to general topologies. For each fragment we establish whether a cutoff exists, and for some concrete topologies, such as rings, cliques and stars, we infer small cutoffs. Finally, we show that the problem becomes undecidable, and thus no cutoffs exist, if processes are allowed to choose the directions in which they send or from which they receive the token.

Parameterized Systems in BIP: Design and Model Checking
BIP is a component-based framework for system design built on three pillars: behavior, interaction, and priority. In this paper, we introduce first-order interaction logic (FOIL) that extends BIP without priorities to systems parameterized in the number of components. We show that FOIL captures classical parameterized architectures such as token-passing rings, cliques of identical components co...
متن کاملReconstructing and Extending Regular Model Checking by Refinement of Transition Relation
Regular model checking is a framework for verifying parameterized and infinite-state systems. Techniques for regular model checking such as quotienting require a well-specified transition relation where the invariant of the system is represented implicitly. To relax the restriction, we propose a technique, which we call refinement of transition relation, and reconstruct and extend regular model...
متن کاملLiveness and Acceleration in Parameterized Verification
The paper considers the problem of uniform veriication of parameterized systems by symbolic model checking, using formulas in fs1s (a syntactic variant of the 2nd order logic ws1s) for the symbolic representation of sets of states. The technical diiculty addressed in this work is that, in many cases, standard model-checking computations fail to converge. Using the tool tlvP ], we formulated a g...
متن کاملA Unifying Model Checking Approach for Safety Properties of Parameterized Systems
We present a model checking algorithm for safety properties that is applicable to parameterized systems and hence provides a unifying approach of model checking for parameterized systems. By analysing the conditions under which the proposed algorithm terminates, we obtain a characterisation of a subclass for which this problem is decidable. The known decidable subclasses, token rings and broadc...
متن کاملOn the verification of asynchronous parameterized networks of communicating processes by model checking
The uniform verification problem for parameterized systems is to determine whether a temporal property is true for every instance of the system which is composed of an arbitrary number of homogeneous processes. We consider some aspects of the inductionbased technique which assumes the construction of finite invariants of such systems. An invariant process is one which is greater (with respect t...
